KW 50 / Let’s go away for Christmas
Weihnachten ist nicht zuletzt dafür da, auf dem Sofa unter einer dicken Decke mit Blick auf den Weihnachtsbaum oder die Lichterkette ein gutes Buch zu lesen. Den Soundtrack dafür könnte ohne weiteres Lido von Darren Hayman liefern, ein Instrumentalalbum über … Freibäder!

Würde es nicht zwischendurch Schwimmbadgeschrei geben, könnte das Album Lido Musicauch glatt als Christmas Ambient Folk durchgehen. Macht aber nichts und schließlich ist der nächste Woche beginnende Winter ja auch zum Träumen vom Sommer da. Noch besser als Schwimmbadmusik ist vielleicht nur Seemusik, deshalb kommt als nächstes Lakeside, die erste Single des im Frühling 2017 erscheinenden neuen Albums von Enderby’s Room:
Aber wir wollen das 4. Adventswochenende im Kulturklubben natürlich nicht ohne richtige Weihnachtsmusik einleiten. Und zwar mit einem schon 2011 veröffentlichten Adventskalender von Darren Hayman, Fika Recordings und Freunden:

I love Christmas. Always have. I really do start listening to carols about August (only in secret though – I don’t play them out loud till November). I do tend to make things difficult for the people closest to me though, and I worry that at some point I’m going to fuck up Christmas and we won’t get it back. I think that’s the feeling I’ve had while writing. Trying not to ruin something you love, or hurt your loved ones.

Eine gute Nachricht ist daher auch das fürs kommende Jahr angekündigte Album von Bill Botting and the Two Drink Minimums: Better Friends. Vorab zu hören ist das Stück Graceland.
Beenden wir diesen Beitrag so, wie wir ihn begonnen haben, mit einem Album von Darren Hayman und der Quelle des Videos. Christmas In Haworth ist seine EP aus dem Jahr 2011, damals mit Siebdruckcover, Teebeutel und Julias veganem Weihnachtskuchenrezept Happy Christmas Kittens erschienen:
“Let’s go away for Christmas”, we said. We never go away for Christmas and Christmas never looks like Christmas. Christmas did look like Christmas in Haworth in 2010: a blanket of snow, tinsel, all that stuff. It made me nostalgic for cheap, flimsy cards that hung on string on my parents’ wall. When I think of Christmas, I don’t think of snow, I think of my Uncle pushing a shaving foam pie into my face until I choked. I think of my Mum crying over Monopoly. I think of cold fatty meats and a broken James Bond Lotus Espirit.
Christmas gets in the way, so we got out of the way of Christmas. We went to Haworth in Yorkshire. We walked out into the countryside and got lost in the snow.
