KW 14 / Tapetenwechsel
New York
Track by Track
The Year Of Jófríður “‘Brazil’ is a very dear album to me,” she says. “I should say that I never intended to make this album—it happened unexpectedly, like a particularly beautiful sunset. I met a very singular person, Shahzad Ismaily, who believed in me to the extent that I gained the superpowers needed to start this—and to see it through.”
Consequence of Sound “It’s about tearing away from the homeland, piece by piece, step by step, trip by trip. It’s about parting your heart, leaving it behind and losing it completely. Collecting it again and parting it again. The ever evolving cycle of loving, losing and learning how to swim between the two.”
I decided the album is called Brazil because I felt it is the furthest away from Iceland I could find [...]
In your travels, did you go to Brazil?
Never, and I think I should never go there [...]
New Mexico
Best of March Oh, wow, this is a VERY interesting album. Stunningly beautiful folk-based songs and melodies sung with lovely, warm vocals, combined with interesting studio experiments, noise loops and field recordings. It is an unusual combination, for sure, but everything works so well here, and when you give it a listen, you will find much beauty in it. There is so much emotion put into these songs that I sometimes find myself teary eyed when I listen to this. It’s not for everyone, but definitely for me. Truly inspirational.
Walker’s first full-length, Hands in Our Names, was conceived in the New Mexico desert. A few hours away from her Tucson home, she ventured to a remote house nestled in the midst of a grassy plain—the sort of Southwest residence that lets you see miles into the distance. (Crucially, she didn’t have cell service.)
Ohne Elektronik, die Alben Take Your Time und A Good Year von 2015 und 2012:
Und nur mit Gitarre am Kamin …
Karima Walker stopped by my house in the midst of a long nationwide tour to record a couple brand new songs. This one is off of her latest EP “Take Your Time” which is available now from Diet Pop Records!
